Meditation Tips While at Work
The best habit that I have developed over the past several years is forming a connection with meditation.
Meditation helps keep me at peace and in a mind-full state. It also helps me to worry less and keeps me focused throughout my day. When I am having a bad day at work, I close my office door, turn off the light, and block any distractive noises from down the hallway.
I begin by turning on some relaxing music from my computer. Music is a great intervention to reduce stress. Then I sit on the floor with my legs crossed with the back of my hands resting on my thighs. Sometimes I sit on my office chair with my feet planted on the floor. I sit up straight and close my eyes.
I take a few deep breaths inhaling through my nose and exhaling through my mouth. Don’t get too caught up in the how – just do.
Then I check how my mind is. Is it wandering? I breathe deeper if it is. I focus on the soft and relaxing music I choose. I imagine I am at the beach smelling the salty air.
When my feelings and thoughts get the best of me at his times, I always return to my breath and do a body scan relaxing all my body parts.
When I’ve completed my meditation, giving myself at least 10 minutes, I give myself a smile. I remind myself how grateful I am for the time I can have to myself.
